Plum Bites – 5 delicious salmon dishes not to be missed

Here at Plum, we are all fans of the seafood diet. We see food we eat it. However, there is one particular fish that has captured all our fair Plumsters’ hearts and that’s none other than SALMONNNNNN!

“It’s SALMON time!”

Lucky for you (and us!), we have with us five awesome restaurants that got us swooning and salivating over their rice bowls. These savoury salmon rice bowls are painstakingly arranged to look perfect “for the gram” and taste even better in your tummies. Whale, enough chatter, let’s dive right in!

1. Salmon Mentaiko Bowl by Chirashi King Kong

Nestled in a hole-in-the-wall on the second floor of  Tanjong Pagar Plaza is none other than Chirashi King Kong. While they have many delectable rice bowls options for everyone, our Plumsters’ favourite is definitely the Salmon Mentaiko Bowl!

Chirashi King Kong’s salmon mentaiko don is the perfect lunch to brighten up your workday. Fresh salmon slices are lightly blowtorched to give a smoky flavour and house-made mentaiko sauce is then generously slathered over the salmon. It is complemented with a bed of premium Japanese rice that’s blended with truffle and flying fish roe. This delightful bowl is then topped with pickles, jellyfish and seaweed sides. Talk about the perfect lunch!

2. Salmon Mentaiko Lagoon Bowl by Lagoon in a Bowl

Next up we have Lagoon In A Bowl’s Salmon Mentaiko Lagoon Bowl and it is truly a feast for the eyes. The most striking thing about this dish would be the blue rice, which is reminiscent of the oceans. The blue in the rice is creatively crafted from butterfly pea flowers, which boast to have some serious health benefits (shoutout to our health junkies!).

This gorgeous rice bowl is then paired with their signature seared salmon, doused with savoury mentaiko sauce.  It is completed with seasonal fresh vegetables topped with a silky onsen egg.  Time to hit the beach with your beach bod from healthy lunch.

4.  Mentaiko Bowl by Big Bowls Project (Halal)

Found in the bustling Amoy Street Food Centre, we have the Big Bowls Project which sells halal poke bowls and is 100% Muslim-owned!

The salmon is perfectly cooked and lightly blowtorched for a smoky flavour. It is also lightly seasoned with fragrant sesame seeds. After which a generous serving of creamy Mentaiko mayo sauce is spread over the perfectly done salmon fillet, creating a melt-in-the-mouth experience in every bite. That’s not all, assorted sides include fragrant jasmine brown rice, crunchy Japanese cucumber and a perfectly cooked Japanese Onsen egg. Big Bowls lives up to its name by going BIG on taste as well as health benefits. It’s like having the best of both worlds!

5. Kaiseidon by Teppei Syokudo

Last but not least, we have our own Kaiseidon from the DIY Teppei Syokudo. Teppei restaurants are known for their elusive omasake dinner that require long waiting list but it’s time to celebrate because…. they do have takeout branches as well!

We know that sometimes, we aren’t satisfied with just one type of sashimi. Salmon? Or tuna? Boy, do we have a solution for you! The Kaisedon comes with a myriad of 7 (yes 7, you heard right!) assorted sashimi, giving so many exciting textures and flavours in a bowl. A special sauce is then drizzled generously over the fish and rice to give it an extra kick! This is definitely a lunch to die for!
